Keys2drive+Plus FAQs

Launch of second free lesson in Western Australia - Keys2drive+Plus

We’re pleased to let you know about a new Keys2drive initiative launching in WA, which is aimed at increasing lesson numbers in non-metropolitan areas.

Below are some FAQs to help familiarise yourself with the Keys2drive+Plus lesson and how it all works.

Learners from regional and remote Western Australia get two free lessons with Keys2drive

For a limited time, learners from regional or remote areas of WA who register for the Keys2drive (K2D) free lesson can also claim a second free Keys2drive+Plus (K2D+) lesson with a K2D-accredited instructor.

Eligible learners will receive:

  • 1 x 60-minute K2D free lesson (supervisor attendance mandatory)
  • 1 x 60-minute K2D+ free lesson (supervisor attendance optional).

Am I eligible for the free Keys2drive+Plus lesson?

If you:

  • live in an Inner Regional, Outer Regional, Remote, or Very Remote area of WA (according to the Aus. Bureau of Statistics)
  • this address is confirmed on your learner’s permit
  • register on the Keys2drive website by 30 September 2022

you are eligible for a K2D+ lesson.

How do I get my Keys2drive and Keys2drive+Plus free lessons?

Between 4 July 2022 and 30 Sept 2022 eligible WA learners can register for their free K2D lesson and K2D+ lesson at the same time.

You will receive two separate Free Lesson IDs which you can give to your chosen K2D-accredited instructor.

Can I get the Keys2drive+Plus free lesson but not have a Keys2drive lesson?

No. You must complete a standard K2D free lesson with your supervisor first, before having the K2D+ free lesson.

How long will I have to use the Keys2drive+Plus free lesson?

The Free Lesson ID for your K2D+ lesson will expire three months from the date you register and the expiry date cannot be extended.

Can any driving instructor in my area deliver these free lessons?

No. Only instructors accredited with the K2D program can deliver the lessons.

Are the two lessons the same?

No. The K2D free lesson follows a set lesson plan which includes theory and a practical drive. Your supervising driver (usually mum or dad but not necessarily) must attend the full hour of the K2D free lesson.

The K2D+ free lesson does not follow a set lesson plan. You can use this part of the lesson to work on anything you and your instructor agree to.

Does my parent/supervisor have to come to both lessons?

No, but they are more than welcome to! Your supervising driver is only required to attend the first 60-minute K2D free lesson, including the theory and the practical drive. It is up to your supervising driver whether they wish to attend your K2D+ free lesson.

Do I have to take my two lessons together or can I do them at different times?

This one’s up to you, but keep in mind that your K2D+ Free Lesson ID expires after three months, so we suggest you book both lessons back-to-back if you can.

If not, you can do the K2D free lesson first, then book your K2D+ lesson for a later date (but make sure it's before the Free Lesson ID expiry date).

Can I do the two lessons with two different instructors?

If you would like to use a different instructor for both lessons, you can. The only requirement is that both are K2D-accredited instructors. Most people prefer to take all their lessons (free or paid) with the same instructor. This is often for consistency, or for the fact that you’ve built a good rapport with that instructor.

I had to cancel my Keys2drive+Plus lesson on short notice, can I get another FLID?

If your K2D+ lesson is cancelled by you within 24 hours of the scheduled time we, unfortunately, cannot provide any additional FLIDs for this lesson.

What happens after the lesson?

After the K2D free lesson, you and your supervisor will be sent an SMS with a link to a short survey regarding your experience.

Then, about a month after your K2D free lesson, you'll receive another SMS with a link to a short video about safer cars.
